1850s Couch House Renovation in Kirkwood, MO

Built in the 1850s, the historic home had no curb appeal, with its original front lost to the new streets and houses built around it. Over time, its detailing had been removed or covered with stucco. The floor plan footprint was large, but the small, disconnected rooms did not meet current homeowners’ needs. Relocating the front door, adding a wrap-around porch, and using historical photos for inspiration created a lack of curb appeal. A new kitchen opening to the dining room and a new family room were added as a “family hub,” the interconnected 2nd-floor bedrooms were separated to create a master suite and two bedrooms.
